Data Processing at CERN
In 1983, the Data-handling Division at CERN installed line No. 1000 to a terminal used for the preparation of the Large Electron-Positron (LEP) collider physics. Most of the lines connecting terminals on-site arrived at this point, from where they were redistributed to INDEX exchanges and to remote host computers. Today, the 400 terabytes of data stored from LEP experiments is only peanuts compared to the 50 petabytes per year produced by LHC experiments.
